Who we are
"AI Playground" refers to AI Playground LLC, an after-school enrichment company headquartered in McLean, Virginia, United States ("we," "us," or "our"). We deliver in-person cohort programs and one-on-one tutoring in artificial intelligence, design, and computational thinking for students in grades K through 6.
Our principal contact for privacy matters is the email address listed in Section 15.
What this policy covers
This policy describes how we collect, use, share, and protect information through:
- Our website at joinaiplayground.com (the "Site").
- Our cohort programs, including in-person and remote sessions ("Programs").
- Our one-on-one tutoring services ("Tutoring").
- Communications you have with us by email, phone, or web form.
This policy does not cover the privacy practices of any third party, including schools, PTOs, or external services we link to.
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to operate.
A. From parents and guardians
- Contact details — name, email address, and (optionally) phone number, submitted through our inquiry forms.
- School and PTO information — school name, role (e.g., PTO chair), and any free-text message you send.
- Student basics for enrollment — your child's first name and grade. We do not require a last name, date of birth, address, or government identifier.
- Payment information — if and when payments are accepted on the Site, billing will be processed by a PCI-compliant third-party payment processor (such as Stripe). We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
B. From students during sessions
- Work produced in class — sketches, written reflections, code, designs, and other materials a student creates as part of the program.
- Photographs of work — we may photograph finished projects for portfolio and showcase purposes, with parental consent.
We do not require students to create personal user accounts on third-party AI services. AI tools used in class are operated through sandboxed instructor accounts.
C. Automatically from the Site
- Basic device and request data — IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and referring URL, collected by our hosting provider for security and operational purposes.
- Aggregate analytics — anonymized counts of page views and traffic sources, used to understand how the Site is being used.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") regulates the online collection of personal information from children under 13. We take COPPA seriously and have designed our operations to minimize the personal information we receive from or about any child.
- Inquiries about Programs and Tutoring may only be submitted by a parent, legal guardian, or other authorized adult (such as a PTO representative).
- We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through the Site. The Site is not directed to children, and we do not market to children.
- Where a child's first name and grade are provided by a parent during enrollment, we collect that information from the parent, not the child, and we use it only to provide the service the parent has requested.
- Parents may review, correct, or request deletion of any information we hold about their child at any time by emailing us. See Section 10.
- If we learn that we have inadvertently received personal information from a child under 13 in violation of this policy, we will delete that information promptly.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to inquiries from parents, PTOs, and schools.
- Schedule and operate cohort programs and tutoring sessions.
- Provide instructional materials and personalized lesson plans.
- Communicate with parents about scheduling, billing, safety, and program updates.
- Process payments and maintain financial records required by law.
- Operate, secure, and improve the Site.
- With separate, opt-in parental consent, feature de-identified student work in marketing materials (e.g., showcase pages, the Site, printed flyers).
We do not sell personal information. We do not use student work or contact details for advertising profiles, and we do not allow third parties to use them for that purpose.
How we share information
We share personal information only in the limited circumstances listed below:
- With service providers who help us operate — for example, our website host, our form-delivery provider, and any payment processor. These providers are contractually bound to use the information only to provide services to us. See Section 7.
- With schools or PTOs with whom we are partnering, only to the extent necessary to coordinate the Program your child is enrolled in.
- For legal reasons — to comply with valid legal process, protect the safety of our students or staff, or enforce our agreements.
- In a business transfer — if AI Playground is merged, acquired, or its assets are transferred, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the protections of this policy.
Service providers we use
We rely on a small set of well-known providers to deliver the Site and our programs:
- Vercel Inc. — hosts the Site and processes basic request data for delivery and security.
- Web3Forms — delivers messages submitted through the inquiry forms on the Site to our team inbox.
- Stripe, Inc. — if and when we accept online payments, Stripe (or a similar PCI-DSS-compliant processor) will process the transaction. Their handling of card data is governed by their privacy policy.
- Email and calendaring — standard business email and calendaring tools (such as Google Workspace or Apple iCloud) used to correspond with parents and schedule sessions.
We review our provider list periodically and remove any that are no longer needed.
How long we keep information
We retain personal information only as long as we need it:
- Inquiry messages — retained for up to 24 months from the date of the last interaction, then deleted or anonymized.
- Enrollment records and financial records — retained for the length of the engagement and for an additional period required by tax and accounting law, typically seven (7) years.
- Student work — original student work is returned to the family at the end of the program. We may retain photographs of finished work for portfolio purposes, subject to the consent you provide at enrollment.
- Web logs and analytics — retained in aggregate form; identifying request data is purged on a rolling basis by our hosting provider.
How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized access, and misuse. These include:
- Encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS) across the Site and our service providers.
- Access controls that limit personal information to staff who need it to perform their roles.
- Background checks for instructors who work directly with children.
- Sandboxed AI environments for classroom tools, so student inputs are not used to train external models.
No security program is perfect. If we become aware of a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
Your rights and choices
You can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you or your child.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Delete personal information, subject to legal record-keeping obligations (for example, financial records we must keep for tax purposes).
- Withdraw consent to feature your child's work or photographs in marketing materials. Once you do, we'll remove the affected materials from future use.
- Opt out of non-essential communications by replying "unsubscribe" or contacting us directly.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at partners@joinaiplayground.com. We respond to verified requests within 30 days.
If you are a resident of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, or another state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law, the above rights are provided to you without regard to your state of residence.
Educational records (FERPA)
When we operate under contract with a public school or school district, we may receive information that constitutes an "education record" under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). In those cases, we treat the school or district as the owner of those records, follow their direction regarding access and use, and do not redisclose the records except as that school or district directs or as the law requires.
Cookies and analytics
Our Site uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies, limited to what is necessary to deliver the Site and to measure aggregate traffic. We do not use cookies for cross-site advertising or to build behavioral profiles. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; some features may not function without them.
International users
AI Playground operates in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, which may have different data-protection rules than your home country. By using the Site, you consent to that processing.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where reasonable, notify families by email. The version posted on this page is always the version currently in effect.
